For those of you desiring a moredetailed technical discussion of how the EnergeeSaver work, thefollowing is provided :


In the normal uncontrolledoperation of an induction motor, the voltage sine wave has the same valueregardless of whether the motor is fully or lightly loaded. Excessive andwasteful levels of power are consumed when the motor’s load is minimal.Subsequently, the current sine wave reaches greater than required levels tomaintain the load.


In accordance with the EnergeeSaver,the power factor can be determined without the use of a electromagnetic sensingelement. The determination has been made that the absolute current measurementare not required. In order to detect the power factor in accordance with theprinciples of the EnergeeSaver, only the zero crossing of the currentrelatives to the voltage needs to be detected.


In a Motor Controller for AC Inductionmotors in accordance with the EnergeeSaver, a Thyristor (Back to Back)is placed in the circuit with each phase winding of the motor. The voltage atthe Thyristor gate is monitored. The gate voltage is used to provide a signalthat indicates when current flows through the motor and crosses zero. A voltagesampler circuit provides signals, which identify when the voltage applied tothe motor crosses zero. Both signals are supplied to a microcontroller, whichprovides a pulse width modulated digital output signals that, in turn, controlsthe thyristors to control the power supplied to the motor by varying the dutycycle of the power applied to the motor windings.


The inherent design of an inductionmotor causes it to use excessive current and voltage even under light or no-loadcondition. The research show that a typical industrial or commercial motor maybe loaded at between only 50% and 60% of full amp or Wattage draw. The EnergeeSaversoftware energy management algorithms sense the load on the motor bymonitoring the “zero crossing” points of both the voltage and current sinewaves and, the use of a Thyristors, it cuts the voltage during times ofexcessive voltage. While the Thyristors are switched off, the motor generatesno current and therefore the current sine wave is reduced as well.


The width of this reduction isdetermined by the actual load on the motor, which the EnergeeSaver calculatesby comparing current and voltage phase angles. The result of this voltage andcurrent reduction is that less energy is consumed and the motor is subjected tominimal heat stress.


Under light loads, the “width ofthe reduction” removed from the A/C signal will be significant. As the loaddemanded by the motor increases, the width of the reduction will decrease, tothe point where under fully loaded conditions the “width of the reduction”removed is negligible and full power is allowed to flow to the motor, producinga more efficient, quieter operation and smaller utility bills. Since theinduction motor’s rotor has inertia, the “width of the reduction” (which lastsonly a fraction of a second) has no effect on the motor speed or torque output.


The above method of voltage andcurrent regulation has proven that the EnergeeSaver saves anywhere from10% to 40% ELECTRICITY on appliances in and around the Industry.
